Dinosaur Pile-Up frontman Matt Bigland opens up in this new interview about the band’s triumphant return with their new album 'I’ve Felt Better', out now via Mascot Records.

From a long creative process shaped by illness and introspection to the emotionally charged visuals by Fred Stonehouse, Matt shares the deeply personal journey behind the album’s creation and why this record means more than any before.

Matt reveals how a devastating battle with ulcerative colitis left him physically and mentally broken, leading to ego death, creative burnout, and long periods away from the stage. But through it all, music remained, if not as a lifeline, then as an inevitable force.

He explains how his relationship with fellow musician and now-wife Karen Diō brought clarity, love, and fresh purpose. The conversation also touches on the irony of fame, the realities of DIY artistry, and the bittersweet experience of returning to festivals like 2000 Trees.

METAL FOR GOOD CHARTIY

Check out our chosen charity, Metal For Good, and the great charity work they do - https://metalforgood.org

Aug 27, 2025

After confirming for 100% certainty that Dewsbury is not currently on meth (which kinda sounds like something that someone on meth would say) he and Moose catch up to discuss plans for the Primordial Burns Supper in Inverness next year. Tickets for the event will shortly be on sale from the website, including a hotel deal AND a trip to Loch Ness! How amazing would it be if the PRFam were the ones to finally confirm the existence of Nessie?! It could happen.

The guys are also joined by Katy Baker from Metal For Good, who are the official charity partners of Primordial Radio. Moose and Katy discuss the charity's activities over the summer, current events, and look ahead to the upcoming Metal Merch Day, coming in October.

This week Moose and Dews catch up at an unusually late hour, leading to the kind of catch-up they’d usually have over a few beers. Sadly, being consummate professionals, there were no beers involved in the recording of this podcast. Boooo!

After the usual discussion of life, the universe, and everything, the main topic of conversation this week is the titular dates for the calendar, including Metal For Good’s upcoming Metal Merch Day, and the slightly less upcoming Burns Supper in January.

They also brainstorm ideas for other potential events. This leads to the realisation that having two ticketed events within a week of each other would be very like Thomas The Tank Engine. It really *is* like a conversation they’d have in the pub.

Moose and Dews catch up again this week, after an excellent weekend of (relatively!) wholesome, fantastic fun on Dews’ part Bloodstock festival 2025.

Looking back on the weekend that was, Dews reflects on his experiences at the festival, including some excellent performances, excellent company, and one notably excellent nap. The guys discuss the incredible, vibrant community around Bloodstock, the excitement of connecting with fans, and the nuances of festival organization, including weather conditions and future announcements.

They also look at the recent announcement of artists for Bloodstock 2026.

Moose and Pete are back for this week's episode of the Primordial Radio Podcast and are discussing whether or not it's time for the podcast to have a change.

In the 8 years since we've started the podcast, video has become a much more important aspect, but so has discovery and SEO. Without changing the core of what the podcast is, Pete proposes ways we can grow the podcast via Spotify's new Partner Program, showcase other content such as the Radio Residency, but also maintain what we do now.

The guys discuss the pros and cons and what will be the best moving forward. There's also discussion on Bloodstock Festival coming up this weekend.
